No goals set for the year
It is that time of the year when you starting taking stock of what have you done and what have you achieved in the last 12 months.
As some one who is supremely goal oriented and driven by lists and organizers, I set myself free from it all this past year.
Besides my life goals which pretty much will stay consistent till I die,and I do commit to grow as an individual, I decided to take decisions in the moment and live in present in 2018.
And a year later, I am happy to report that I have never been more relaxed and at peace before.
I have always been taught and said to set specific,measurable,time-bound goals. If you want to succeed, you need to set goals. Without goals you lack focus and direction. Goal setting not only allows you to take control of your life’s direction; it also provides you a benchmark for determining whether you are actually succeeding…Blah blah…(The list goes on)
Few things which caught my attention are,
- How is it possible to set realistic goals when it is impossible to predict all those factors outside of our control that could influence these?
- Isn’t defining goals in defining limitations???
I have no complaints. I have no disappointments. I am not burnt out. And I do not need to recharge and relax. I was successfully able to incorporate down time with my busy time throughout the year.
I did whatever was the need of the hour, but I also carved out time for myself to unwind and relax. 2018 was when I truly put myself first. I did not let guilt, stress or comparison run my life.I actively listened to my brain and body and did what truly was in sync with my sensibilities and lifestyle.
And finally at the end of it…
I had a successful blogging year.I wrote many contents.
I had a successful entrepreneurial year.
I had a fit year.I worked out 4-5 times most weeks.
I had amazing travel experiences in the year.
And I am stronger than ever before.
Just because I did not set any specific goals, does not mean I was slacking. It just means that I have goals which last longer than a year’s duration. But also, that I am able to work hard and achieve results even without implementing conventional way of viewing life.
I guess, the point I am trying to make is that it is okay to not do what you have always done. It is okay to not have clear goals. It is also okay to not know where you are headed. As long as you can see the bigger picture and constantly strive to follow your passions, you will find your path as you move forward.
Achieving a goal only changes your life for the moment.
The problem with a goals-first mentality is that you’re continually putting happiness off until the next milestone.Goals create an “either-or” conflict: either you achieve your goal and are successful or you fail and you are a disappointment. It makes no sense to restrict your satisfaction to one scenario when there are many paths to success.
So whether or not you are setting a goal,long-term,short-term,till the time you are better than what you were yesterday…you are successful.
That’s my 2018 in a nutshell. How was your 2018?
